Automatic QR Code Detection

When you — or anyone in the conversation — share an image that contains a QR code or barcode, Z-Chat scans it automatically and shows a small card with the decoded information, right below the image. You don't need to switch to a separate scanner app.

What gets recognized

Z-Chat understands the most common code types and shows a relevant action for each:

• Bank transfer (VietQR / NAPAS) — bank, account number, account holder and amount, plus the QR ready to scan with your banking app.
• Web links — the link with a one-tap Open button.
• Wi-Fi networks — the network name and security type, with a button to copy the password.
• Contacts (vCard / MeCard) — name, phone, email and organization, with an Add to AddressBook button that saves the contact to your Z-Cloud address book (or Save contact to download a vCard file).
• Phone numbers, SMS and email — one tap to call, send a message, or compose an email.
• Locations — opens the coordinates in Maps.
• Calendar events — an Add to Z-Calendar button creates the event in Z-Calendar (or download an .ics file for another calendar app).
• Plain text — shown as text with a Copy button.

On the web app, Z-Chat also reads 1D barcodes (EAN/UPC, Code 128, Code 39, ITF, Codabar) and other 2D codes such as Data Matrix, Aztec and PDF417. The mobile app currently detects QR codes.

How it works

• Detection runs on your device. The image is not uploaded anywhere for scanning, and the result is not stored on the server.
• It scans the image in the background, just after the message appears, so it never slows down the conversation.
• Results are cached, so scrolling back through history doesn't re-scan the same image.
• Links are never opened automatically. You always have to tap to open them, and on mobile Z-Chat asks for confirmation first. Treat a link from a QR code the same way you'd treat any link from an unknown source.

Where you'll see it

The information card appears directly under the image in the message — for example, a photo you took of a printed QR code, a screenshot, or an image someone forwarded to you. See Sharing Files in Conversations for more on how images and files behave in chat.

Tip: This works for any image in a conversation, including ones forwarded from another room — there's nothing to enable, and you don't need to open the image first.
