Earthquake Alerts

Real-time Japan earthquake, tsunami and Earthquake Early Warning (EEW) alerts for your whole tenant — with safety check, admin dashboard, and SOS contacts.

Japan Earthquake & Tsunami Alerts

NEW

Instant in-app alerts, one-tap safety check, and an admin response dashboard — so your team stays safe and accounted for when the ground shakes.

Japan-only feature

Earthquake Alerts are designed specifically for the Japan market. Data sources (P2PQuake, JMA — Japan Meteorological Agency) cover Japan territory only. The feature is disabled by default and must be enabled by a tenant administrator.

Z-Cloud Workspace ingests real-time seismic data from two independent sources and pushes alerts to every member of your tenant across Web, Desktop and Mobile — simultaneously. Critical events open a full-screen overlay on top of whatever screen the user is on, so nobody misses the warning.

How It Works

Ingest
P2PQuake WebSocket + JMA Atom XML feed (dual source)
Dispatch
Filter by tenant prefectures & min intensity, dedupe across sources
Notify
Web overlay + Mobile modal + OS push — simultaneously

The entire pipeline from seismic trigger to your screen typically takes under 3 seconds for EEW (Earthquake Early Warning) events.

Alert Types

Earthquake (地震情報)

Post-event report with epicenter, magnitude (M), depth, and maximum JMA intensity (shindo 1 – 7).

EEW (緊急地震速報)

Earthquake Early Warning — arrives seconds before strong shaking reaches affected areas.

Tsunami (津波情報)

Tsunami advisory, warning, and major warning levels issued by JMA.

Test Notification

Admins can send a test alert to their own tenant (prefixed with 【TEST】) to verify rollout.

Safety Check (安否確認)

When a critical alert arrives, every member sees a response panel with five one-tap options:

Safe

"I'm OK" — green, lowest severity.

Need Help

Non-urgent assistance needed.

Injured

Reports a physical injury — admin will see it immediately.

Emergency

Highest severity — triggers an immediate admin notification.

A fifth option — "Unable to respond right now" — lets members defer replying without dismissing the alert.

Admins are paged on critical responses

Whenever a member submits Need Help, Injured, or Emergency, tenant admins receive a real-time notification with a direct link to the response dashboard.

Location Sharing for Help Requests

When a member picks Need Help, Injured, or Emergency, Z-Cloud opens a location-sharing modal before submitting the status.

1) Ask permission

The browser asks for location permission (geolocation).

2) Show map preview

If location is available, the modal shows a map preview with coordinates and estimated accuracy.

3) Refresh location if needed

Users can tap Use My Location again to fetch a fresher/high-accuracy GPS fix.

4) Choose whether to share

Users explicitly choose Share Location or Don't Share.

5) Submit status

If shared, coordinates are attached to the status. If skipped (or location is unavailable), the status is still submitted without coordinates.

What admins can see

On the admin response dashboard, responses with shared coordinates include a View on Map link (OpenStreetMap), making it faster to locate people who need help.

Emergency Contacts (SOS)

Tenant admins configure a list of emergency phone numbers (company safety office, local emergency services, building management, etc.). During an alert, any user can:

  • On mobile: Tap a contact to launch the OS dialer (tel: link).
  • On web: Tap Copy to copy the number to clipboard, then call from any phone.

The SOS button appears both inside the alert modal and on the full-screen earthquake page — always one tap away.

Admin Response Dashboard

Tenant admins see a per-event dashboard with:

  • Response counts broken down by severity (Safe / Need Help / Injured / Emergency / Unable / No response).
  • Timeline of responses as they arrive in real time.
  • Filter by severity to quickly find members who reported injuries or emergencies.
  • Map link per response when coordinates were shared.
  • Member list showing who has and hasn't responded yet.

Both web and mobile (Tenant Admin → Earthquake Alerts) expose the same dashboard.

Tenant Settings

Admins control the feature from the Earthquake Alerts admin page:

Enable the feature

Turn the master switch on. Disabled by default.

Choose prefectures to monitor

Select from 47 Japanese prefectures, grouped by region (Hokkaido, Tohoku, Kanto, Chubu, Kansai, Chugoku, Shikoku, Kyushu). Use All Japan to monitor everywhere.

Set minimum intensity

Alerts below this JMA shindo level are ignored (default: 4). Scale: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5-, 5+, 6-, 6+, 7.

Configure SOS contacts

Add emergency phone numbers — name, phone, optional description. Users see these during alerts.

Send test notification

Use Send Test Notification to verify that alerts reach all members. Test alerts are clearly labeled 【TEST】 and auto-expire after 7 days.

Where to Find It

Web — User

Global overlay on any page + a dedicated earthquake page showing latest events and your response history.

Web — Admin

Tenant Admin → Earthquake Alerts — settings, test notification, and dashboard tabs.

Mobile — User

Full-screen modal overlay on critical alerts + a dedicated earthquake screen reachable from notifications.

Mobile — Admin

More → Tenant Admin → Earthquake Alerts — dashboard with response filtering.

Data Sources

Dual-source redundancy

Z-Cloud ingests from two independent sources and cross-deduplicates. If one source is briefly unavailable, the other continues to trigger alerts.

  • P2PQuake — WebSocket JSON feed. Low latency, broad coverage including EEW.
  • JMA (気象庁) — Official Japan Meteorological Agency Atom XML feed, polled every 60 seconds.

Privacy & Retention

  • Real events are retained for 90 days, then deleted automatically.
  • Test events are retained for 7 days.
  • Raw source payloads are cleared after 7 days (the summarized event remains).
  • Status check responses are kept for the lifetime of the event.
  • User location coordinates are stored only when the member taps Share Location.
  • All data stays within your Z-Cloud tenant — nothing is shared with external services beyond reading from the public P2PQuake/JMA feeds.

Frequently Asked Questions

Who can enable this feature?

Only tenant administrators can enable the feature and configure settings. Regular members automatically receive alerts once it's enabled.

Does it work outside Japan?

No. Data sources (P2PQuake, JMA) cover Japan only. Alerts will not fire for earthquakes in other countries.

Will I be notified when my phone is locked?

Yes. Critical alerts are delivered via OS push notification and ring-through on both iOS and Android, subject to your device notification settings.

Can I silence test alerts?

Test alerts are clearly labeled 【TEST】 but still use the critical channel so admins can verify real-world delivery. They auto-expire after 7 days.

What happens if P2PQuake or JMA is down?

Z-Cloud runs both sources in parallel. An event from either source triggers the alert, with cross-source deduplication to avoid double notifications.

Is location sharing mandatory when I ask for help?

No. You can still submit Need Help, Injured, or Emergency without location by choosing Don't Share (or if location permission is unavailable).

Can I opt out as an individual?

No. Critical safety alerts are broadcast to the entire tenant by design. If you don't want alerts, your tenant admin must disable the feature tenant-wide.
