Security & Virus Protection

Learn how Z-Cloud Workspace protects your data with automatic virus scanning, file quarantine, and data loss prevention for every file uploaded to the system.

Enterprise-Grade File Security

NEW

Every file uploaded to Z-Cloud is automatically scanned for viruses, malware, and threats — across all apps, in real-time.

Z-Cloud Workspace takes file security seriously. Whether you upload through Z-Chat, Z-Files, Z-Mails, or Z-Docs — every file is scanned before it becomes available. This process runs silently in the background, so you can work seamlessly while your data stays protected.

How It Works

Upload
File stored in a secure temporary area
Auto Scan
Scanned by industry-leading antivirus engines
Result
Clean files released, threats quarantined

The entire process typically completes within seconds. You are only notified if a problem is found.

What Gets Protected

Z-Files

Documents, images, videos, and any files you store in your cloud drive.

Z-Chat

Every attachment shared in conversations, channels, and direct messages.

Z-Mails

All email attachments — both incoming and outgoing messages.

Z-Docs

Files attached to collaborative documents and shared workspaces.

Threat Detection

Multi-Layer Protection

Z-Cloud uses multiple scanning engines working together to provide comprehensive protection against known and emerging threats.

  • Viruses and malware — Identified by continuously updated virus signature databases.
  • Dangerous file types — Executables (.exe, .bat, .ps1, etc.) are automatically blocked by default.
  • Macro-enabled documents — Office files with macros (.docm, .xlsm) are flagged for additional review.
  • Suspicious patterns — Advanced pattern matching detects hidden executables, archive bombs, and evasion techniques.

Real-Time Notifications

You will be notified immediately when a threat is found:

Virus Detected

A prominent alert appears in your browser with the file name, threat type, and source application.

File Blocked

When a file is blocked by security policy (e.g., executable file type), you receive a clear explanation.

File Quarantine

Automatic Quarantine

Infected files are immediately moved to a secure quarantine area — they cannot be accessed or downloaded by anyone until reviewed by an administrator.

Your organization's administrator can:

  • Review quarantined files and threat details
  • Release a file if it is determined to be a false positive
  • Delete the file permanently if confirmed as malicious

Data Loss Prevention (DLP)

PRO

For organizations with advanced security needs, Z-Cloud offers DLP scanning that protects sensitive information:

PII Detection

Automatically detects credit card numbers, phone numbers, national IDs, and other personally identifiable information in uploaded documents.

Custom Policies

Administrators configure detection rules and response actions to match organizational compliance requirements.

Security Policies

Your administrator has full control to customize security to your organization's needs:

  • Maximum file size limits for uploads
  • Allowed or blocked file types
  • Macro-enabled document permissions
  • Notification preferences for users and administrators

Frequently Asked Questions

Does scanning slow down my uploads?

No. File scanning happens asynchronously in the background. Your upload completes immediately — you are only notified if a problem is found.

What happens if my file is detected as a virus?

The file is automatically quarantined. No one can download it, including you. You receive a notification explaining the detection. Contact your administrator if you believe it's a false positive.

Are all file types supported?

Yes. Z-Cloud scans all file types — documents, images, archives (ZIP, RAR), and more. Some dangerous types (executables) are blocked by policy before scanning begins.

Is my data private during scanning?

Private by Default

With the built-in Z-Cloud scanning engine, all scanning is performed entirely within the Z-Cloud infrastructure. Your files are never sent to external services — everything stays within your organization's secure environment.

Optional External Engines

If your organization chooses to enable third-party scanning services (such as VirusTotal, Sophos, or other external engines), files may be uploaded to those external providers for analysis. In that case, the handling of your data is governed by the privacy and data-retention policies of those external services — not by Z-Cloud. These integrations are off by default and are only active when an administrator explicitly turns them on.

Can my administrator customize what gets blocked?

Yes. Administrators have full control over security policies per organization — file types, size limits, macro permissions, and notification settings.
