Where You Receive Notifications

Notifications are delivered through multiple channels:

  • In-app — The bell icon in the top corner shows the number of unread notifications.
  • Desktop — Notifications appear on your desktop (browser permission required).
  • Mobile — System notifications on the mobile app.

Customizing Notifications

You can control which notifications you receive:

  1. Go to Settings → Notifications.
  2. Choose the notification level for each app:
    • All messages — Receive notifications for all activity.
    • Mentions only — Only receive notifications when you are @mentioned directly.
    • None — Turn off notifications completely.

Quiet Hours (Do Not Disturb)

Set up Quiet Hours to silence system notifications during specific time periods — for example, during sleep or focus time.

How to set up Quiet Hours

  1. Open the Notification panel (bell icon).
  2. Tap the moon icon (🌙) in the header.
  3. Toggle Enable Quiet Hours on.
  4. Set the start and end time (e.g., 22:00 – 07:00).
  5. Optionally choose which days of the week to apply (default: every day).
  6. Tap Save.

How it works

What happensDuring Quiet HoursOutside Quiet Hours
System notifications (Apple/Google)Silenced — not sent to your deviceSent normally
In-app banners (web & mobile)Suppressed — no pop-up bannersShown normally

  • Your timezone is auto-detected from your device settings.
  • Quiet hours support overnight windows (e.g., 22:00 → 07:00 spans midnight).
  • Settings are synced between devices — set once, applies everywhere.

Note: Notifications are never lost during Quiet Hours. They are stored in the database and you can review them anytime via the notification panel.

Life-safety alerts always bypass Quiet Hours

Earthquake, tsunami, Earthquake Early Warning (EEW), heavy rain, landslide, flooding, and storm notifications always break through Quiet Hours and are delivered immediately to your device, regardless of time of day or day of week. Because these alerts can be critical to your safety, they cannot be silenced by Do Not Disturb settings.

All other notification types (chat, meetings, tasks, etc.) continue to follow your Quiet Hours schedule as configured.

Granting Browser Notification Permission

The first time you use the app, your browser will ask you to allow notifications. Click "Allow" to receive desktop notifications.

If you previously blocked notifications, you can re-enable them in your browser settings.

Tip: Use the "Mentions only" level for busy Z-Chat channels to avoid being disturbed, while still not missing it when someone needs you.
